Becky Hammon’s Birthday Donation to Respite Care of San Antonio
Back in January The Hammonites of Silver Stars Nation asked Becky Hammon to pick a charity for her annual Birthday Donation. She picked Respite Care of San Antonio. A local charity that works with kids with developmental disabilities. We raised over $2000 and in March made the donation in honor of Becky’s 32nd birthday. I recently visited Respite Care and got an update on how the donation was used. The facility is amazing, and as I walked in the sound of children’s laughter was all I heard, not just a little laughter but loud from the belly laughing. I took a tour of the place and was amazed at the amount programs they have for these kids. They have on site medical facilities and if the kids need more intensive treatment they have volunteers taking them to their appointment. They actually have 4 houses within the neighborhood and each location houses a certain number of kids. All of the kids, ranging from ages 0-17 years have some sort of developmental disability. In some cases these kids have been seriously abused. I met an 11 month recovering from head injuries after her parents beat her. She has some permenant damage but is recovering fast. She will be in foster care from now on as her parents are having parental rights severed. She was one of the kids laughing and it was very obvious she was not only happy but very much loved. They used the money to restore the kids playground. This playground is accesible and will accommodate all kids with just about any special needs they may have. I would like to thank Elvia Gonzalez for her tour of the facility and allowing Silver Stars Nation to see how our donation was used.

Silver Stars Insider: Veteran Johnson the key behind late surge
The Silver Stars have won three of their last four games heading into tonight’s contest at Sacramento, seemingly overnight putting their once-sagging playoff fortunes on solid footing.
What was the key to the turnaround?
Was it stingy defense? Was it unselfish, efficient and balanced offense? Was it improved rebounding? Or was it a case of things simply finally coming together at just the right moment?
Realistically, any of the aforementioned attributes can be cited as the reason for the late surge that has put the Silver Stars on the cusp of their third straight WNBA playoff berth.
But the correct answer is Vickie Johnson. READ MORE
