Silver Stars Fall in OT at Sacramento

Silver Stars Becky Hammon scored a career high 38 points and Sophia Young also reached a carrer high 29 points, but the Silver Stars still came up short and lost to the Sacramento Monarchs in over time on Thursday.  The loss puts the Silver Stars back under .500 with a 8-9 record.   The Silver Stars once again dug a hole early and were down by as much as 15.  However Hammon and Young took over and put the team in a position to win.   Belinda Snell contributed 11 points but the Silver Stars bench only managed a combined 15 points.   Defensive breakdowns late and lack of bench contributions were too much for Hammon and Young to overcome.    The Silver Stars were also without head coach Dan Hughes who had to leave the team to tend his ailing father.  Olaf Lange and Sandy Brondello assumed coaching duties.  Coach Hughes is expected to rejoin the team Saturday when the Stars take on the Seattle Storm.  For complete coverage visit the Silver Stars Website

Hammon, Young, Frazee Power Stars over Storm

The Silver Stars claimed their second victory in a row last night at AT&T Center in a nail bitting, thrilling fashion.  With less then 12 seconds left in regulation and the game tied, guard Becky Hammon moved across the court to set up her most important assist of the evening.  With time running down Becky drove to the basket taking what seemed like the entire Seattle team with her only to  pass the ball out to a wide open and set Sophia Young who nailed the three pointer for the win with no time left on the clock.   Becky Hammon finished with a game high 24 point, 4 assists and 4 rebounds.  Rookie Megan Frazee came off the bench and really made an impact on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball.  Megan finished the night with 15 points and 7 rebounds.   Sophia Young struggled early but hit the biggest shot of the night and finished with 15 points, 3 assists and 5 rebounds.   This was a complete team effort that saw the Silver Stars bench out score the Seattle bench 22-5.   Next up for the Stars is a 3 game west coast road trip starting Thursday in Sacramento.  For the complete Silver Stars vs Storm post game stats and video visit sasilverstars.com
