Hughes has been aware of Ekworomadu’s court exploits even before her breakout senior campaign at Texas State — her 18.7 points per game ranked second in the SLC in scoring, and she finished her career as just the fifth player in program history to tally at least 1,500 points and 600 rebounds. Hughes has followed her since she was a sophomore, but being a TV commentator for the Bobcats’ conference game against Stephen F. Austin helped bring Ekworomadu into particular focus.

“I could tell she was just getting it,” Hughes said. “She seemed to be able to understand the game on a level that I understand. I knew she would be a good fit with us.”
